Le Guen needing players to move
Rangers defender Marvin Andrews

Rangers manager Paul Le Guen admits that his ability to bring in a desired two new signings is likely to depend on unwanted players leaving Ibrox. Defenders Marvin Andrews, Olivier Bernard and Bob Malcolm have been told to find new clubs. "If these players do leave the club, I am not sure if it will enable me to bring more in," said Le Guen. "We will see. I am not in a hurry, but I hope that if this happens then I would be able to get one or maybe two." Andrews has spent two years with Rangers, but his unwillingness to undergo cruciate ligament surgery cost him his place with Trinidad & Tobago at the World Cup finals. He has since been linked with Dunfermline Athletic and Hibernian. Bernard, who fell out of favour during his first season at Ibrox, has been on trial with Sheffield United. Long-serving fringe player Malcolm has been linked with Ipswich Town and Coventry City, but no moves have yet materialised. "It would be be better for everyone if we find a solution, but it depends on the will of the players," Le Guen told Rangers' website. "It is better to tell the players the situation before the season starts. "They have an understanding that I think it is best for them to go. "Sometimes it is difficult to tell players that they should leave, but it is better to be honest with them."

Gers criticised on Sebo dealings
Austria Vienna striker Filip Sebo

Austria Vienna are upset with Rangers for unsettling striker Filip Sebo as the Ibrox club continue their pursuit of the 22-year-old. The clubs cannot agree a transfer fee and Austria Vienna told BBC Sport last week that negotiations were at an end. "Maybe they are trying to get the player on their side but that is soccer, sadly," general manager Markus Kraetschmer told The Herald. "We have to search for alternatives and we need the right fee to do that." Rangers are believed to have offered in the region of £1.2m but the Austrians are looking for double that amount for Sebo. Ibrox manager Paul Le Guen has insisted he will not be held to ransom over transfers. And Kraetschmer added: "It is maybe a little bit like that, to put the club under pressure to let him leave. "I'm sure Rangers will offer him a wonderful contract but we just can't let him go and not receive a good transfer fee. It doesn't make good economic sense. "If Rangers want to make him a good offer, they have to make the rest happen first." But the Slovakian international is refusing to give up on a move to Scotland. The forward said: "Now, I am very hopeful of getting a transfer to Rangers soon, after the events of the past few days. "I had a meeting with the owner and told him I wanted to move to Rangers. "I then met with my coach, Frenk Schinkels, and he assured me that all the coaching staff are behind me and understand my position. "Rangers are talking to my agent and I hope this can be finalised. I want the chance of playing in front of 50,000 supporters every other week." Sebo joined Vienna from Artmedia Bratislava last summer and scored 22 goals in his first season as they completed a league and cup double.

Blades trialist Bernard unbowed
Olivier Bernard

Out-of-favour Olivier Bernard says he has not given up on fighting his way into Rangers' first-team plans, despite going on trial with Sheffield United. The Frenchman was chosen just once during the last six months of Alex McLeish's reign and has also been left out by new boss Paul Le Guen. But the full-back said: "If I show enough character and desire I might get back in the team, you never know. "But, at the same time, if Sheffield United want me then why not?" Bernard played in the Premiership newcomers' 3-1 friendly defeat of Morton despite his desire to remain at Ibrox. "I'm not looking for anything," said the 26-year-old, who has a year left of his contract. "But, at the same time, I just want to play football. It's a difficult situation." Bernard joined Rangers from Southampton last summer but played just 15 times, having failed to win back his place after three months out through injury. "I've been playing a couple of games with the reserves, but it's not the same level," he added. "So playing against Morton was a good opportunity for me to play a different type of game."

Ferguson misses Gers' SPL opener
Barry Ferguson has a laugh during a news conference in South Africa

Rangers manager Paul Le Guen has confirmed that Barry Ferguson and Chris Burke will miss the Scottish Premier League opener at Motherwell on Sunday. Ferguson had successful reconstructive surgery on his ankle in April. But inflammation around his heel means the 28-year-old will have to wait for his return to first-team action. Ferguson was missing as Rangers drew 1-1 with Bolton on Tuesday, Dado Prso opening the scoring before Kevin Davies equalised for the English visitors. Prso will deputise for Ferguson as captain at Fir Park. The Scotland skipper had still been hopeful of playing some part against Motherwell. But Le Guen told the club's website: "Unfortunately, it is too early for Barry. "He needs to train more and he needs some matches before he can come into the team." Winger Burke picked up an ankle injury during the club's pre-season trip to South Africa. Striker Kris Boyd is already suspended for the SPL opener after exceeding the disciplinary points threshold in the final game of last season.
